Advancing Community Development Program

Advancing Community Development is a community-outreach initiative of Rutgers' Collaborative to provide local non-profit organizations with a team of J&J skill-based volunteers paired with Rutgers   students to complete capacity-building projects.

Non-profit leaders work with the team to develop projects that help them to serve the needs community organizations are facing resource hardship challenges and need organizational development assistance that will strengthen their management systems.  Community issues and thematic projects to be worked on by working teams in this seminar will be based on the needs identified by non-profit community-based partners.

Past project include developing training programs for board members, creation of marketing materials, implementation of fundraising plans, etc. This years' focus has been helping local residents increase access to healthy, culturally appropriate food by completing capacity -building projects for the New Brunswick Community Food Alliance.

This is a great opportunity for students to learn organizational leadership skills, management performance systems and participate in community-based research while becoming familiar with the New Brunswick community. This is now a two semester program with students completing project planning and development in the Fall and implement the projects in the Spring semester.  Students earn 3 (Psychology and SAS) credits each semester for seminar academic studies in organizational leadership and community development.

We are currently recruiting students for this exciting initiative for the Fall '16 semester. Click here for an application.

The Advancing Community Development Program is a partnership of J&J, the Collaborative Community Council, and the Collaborative Center for Community-Based Research and Service under the auspices of the Office of the Vice President for Institutional Diversity and Inclusion reporting to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs.
